I here it everyday, How will i ever find a job when there are so many other people looking for work. Its simple you have to want it. I am not saying that the "average joe" isnt trying, but there are steps you can take to get one up on the competition in the job pool.
1. Know the companies your applying for
by this i mean do research on thoses your applying for. Make yourself as knowlegeable as possible so you can wow the person that is interviewing you. Think about the questions you may be asked.
2. Dress for the job
I know your saying in this type of economy how am i going to afford a suit, i dont have a job.
The easiest answer i have is to be creative. Borrow from a friend, go to the several resale shops in every town (ex: goodwill, Salvation army, Platos closet, ect). NEVER DRESS BELOW THE JOB( Dont wear jeans if your interviewing for a bank teller position)
3. Allways be on time
Dont show up late ever! Make sure your there early, It is better to be an hour early then 1 min late.
4. Be persistent
Dont give up on a job till your told so. Follow up with the prospective employer, call a few days after interview and ask on status( BE POLITE). Dont ever be pushy. Dont call everyday, but do follow up. Write a thank you note to employer for there time and let them know how much you apprieciate them. If they finnally tell your that they just cant give you the job because of whatever, ask them to please let you know if things change and make sure they keep your contact info. And once again follow up periodicly.
